Does the 2012 Nebraska Cornhusker football program have what it takes to win their first conference title in 13 seasons? We’ll see on Saturday at the Huskers take on Wisconsin for the Big Ten Championship in Indianapolis!
Kickoff is set for 8:17 p.m. ET and national coverage is provided by FOX for the many that weren’t lucky enough to score these Husker tickets. The win against Iowa last Saturday locked up the Legends Division and secured a fantastic regular season record of 10-2 overall record and 7-1 in the Big Ten. This marks Nebraska’s third 10-win season under coach Bo Pelini.
The Cornhuskers are riding a six-game winning streak into the championship matchup, capped by last Saturday’s 13-7 victory over Iowa. Running back Rex Burkhead returned to the field for the first time since a knee injury Oct. 20 and showed fans what they had been missing with 69 rushing yards in the second half and a touchdown. Burkhead is sure to bring an extra boost in the championship game.
The winning streak actually started with a nail-biter against Wisconsin. The Big Ten conference opener was looking pretty grim with the Badgers up 27-10 early in the third quarter, but Taylor Martinez led four straight scoring drives to deliver a 30-27 win. If Nebraska wins on Saturday it will mark the first time they beat the same opponent twice in one season since the 1896 victories over Nebraska Wesleyan.
Wisconsin comes to the matchup with a 7-5 overall record and a 4-4 record in the Big Ten. The Badgers have appeared in the Rose Bowl the last two seasons and will be hungry for their third consecutive Big Ten title.
If Nebraska keeps their incredible momentum rolling through a Big Ten Championship victory, they will head to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on January 1. Husker Nation would be thrilled to see this team play on New Year’s Day for the first time since 2001. Be sure to get your red and white gear ready to rumble this Saturday!
